About Me
I'm Anne Crosby: functional nutrition practitioner, former D1 runner, and founder of Balanced Ascent, my virtual 1:1 practice.
I live in Boulder, Colorado with my husband and two children and can often be found on one of Boulder's many trails.
My Background
A former D1 distance runner, I stopped running competitively because I reached a point where I felt exhausted before I even started a run or workout. Years later, I discovered athletic burnout wasn't a permanent state; focused replenishment and healing digestion at the root (the same process I use for clients) brought back energy I didn't even know I was missing. These days I trail run regularly and train for sub-ultra and ultra distances.
I always thought I was healthy (I ate vegetables!). A pregnancy complication linked to micronutrient deficiency sent me deep into micronutrient research; micronutrient status, it turns out, is a missing element for almost everyone. Most nutrition conversations focus on macros - protein, carbs, fat. Micronutrients are the part that gets skipped. And it's not just about what you eat - it's whether your body can actually absorb it. For athletes and active people, that gap has real consequences.
My study eventually went deep into functional testing, which brought precision to my work. Real food as the foundation, targeted supplementation where the data supports it, and actual lab results so every recommendation has a reason.
